Someone better break the bad news to the sheep, because the zodiac fucked up: 2015 is clearly The Year of Skepta.

From appearing at the BRITS, to a spontaneous carpark performance in Shoreditch, and on to The Great Escape festival in Brighton last weekend, Skepta and BBK have been tearing through the UK music scene like your extended family through a tin of Quality Street at Christmas.

Grime doesn't often get a slot on primetime TV. You won't see JME on Graham Norton's red sofa, and the only Novelist meeting Jonathan Ross is J. K. Rowling. But last night Skepta and DJ Maximum found themselves in just that spot, as they were invited to perform "Shutdown" on Later… With Jools Holland.

Other than the obligatory profanity brushover, Skeppy's rapid and animated performance looked neither tailored or watered down for the BBC slot. It only let up when the "A bunch of young men all dressed in black dancing extremely aggressively on stage…" sample plays, at which point Skepta, dressed all in white, stood motionless, staring straight into the camera, and it's probably the greatest thing that has ever happened in Jools history since Kanye did "Bound 2" in the crucifix pose.
