Premiere: Amber Arcades - "Turning "Light"

A damn fine, spacey chunk of low key techno folk that's as suitable for sleety January days as it is balmy festival mornings.

For most of us, the words "jet lag" and "creativity" are as compatible as MDMA at a funeral. Fortunately, Annelotte de Graff, aka Amber Arcades, is a different beast. After another unwelcome 5 AM wake up call she headed down to the studio, where she found fellow sunrise chaser, bassist Kevin Lareau, and a krautrock-inspred baseline he was working on which fitted like the proverbial sweaty mitten onto the melody she’d been carrying around in her head.

The result, "Turning Light," premiering below, is a spacey chunk of low key techno folk that the pair finished in an hour. Once Ben Greenberg—producer (and former member) of The Men and Beach Fossils among others—had his way with it she wrote the lyrics the next day it was done. Just like that. And what a damn fine thing it is—as suitable for sleety January days as it is balmy festival mornings.

Amber Arcades' album is due out in the Spring and she’ll be doing some dates around it which we’ve done the right thing by and stuck after the jump.
