Did you really think that Nines was going to let Crop Circle, his second release on XL Recordings, come out without fanfare? Of course you didn't, and you were correct: ahead of the album's release date on Friday, Nines has released an entire short film, also titled Crop Circle (which he wrote, directed, and appears in), previewing some of its tracks, and expanding his creative vision even further into the visual.

Nines guides his viewer through life on north west London's Church Road Estate, where he grew up. It's funny in parts, and serious in others, and is threaded through with a compelling sense of reality that's actually sort of missing from most film and TV.

And, cementing Nines' status as one of the central players in UK rap right now, he's also managed to get a few of his pals to make cameos in the film – spot J Hus, MIST, Mostack, Skrapz, Ghetts, and Grindah and Beats of Kurupt FM. Added to the album's stacked list of features (Ray BLK, Dave, Skrapz, and Tiggs da Author all appear), the level of collaboration here is some of the most exciting we've seen in 2018 so far, though, throughout it all, Nines remains the star.
