M.I.A. Serves Up Mellow Love on New Song "Goals"

It precedes her iteration of Meltdown Festival at London's Southbank Centre, which kicks off Friday.

M.I.A. is many things – political force, controversy creator, and maker of bangers being just three of her multiple faces. Love song crafter, however, wasn't something you may have immediately taken her for, but she's nothing if not full of surprises. Earlier today, she released a new song – "Goals" – that she'd been teasing on social media. It lands ahead of this year's Meltdown Festival, which she has curated, at London's Southbank Centre.

The track features a much less bolshy M.I.A. than we're used to hearing on her singles, but her plain speaking bars and emotional awareness are present as ever, while she slides her way through cute lines like "when we come through we fly as fuck though" and "match made in heaven, who's keeping score?" It all unfolds over a simple downtempo beat that feels like a perfect, unfussy soundtrack to being in love.

As you can see from the video above, Meltdown takes place from Friday 9 to Friday 18 June. The lineup includes Young Fathers, Princess Nokia, Giggs, Yung Lean, Young MA, Tommy Genesis and many more, and it's definitely worth your time if you can make it.
