Angel Olsen Shares Previously Unreleased Song "Sans"

Watch her debut a stripped-back version of the song on KCRW.

Angel Olsen's performance of "Sweet Dreams" on Seattle radio station KEXP a few years ago still gives us shivers. Olsen seemingly channeled Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" and early PJ Harvey to create a mesmerising piece of on air magic.

Recently, Angel continued her relationship with public radio when she debuted the stripped-down performance of "Sans" on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic, where she dropped by to perform a selection of songs during her West Coast tour supporting Arcade Fire.

The song is taken from Phases, a collection of B-sides, rarities, and demos, including some previously unreleased tracks, that will be released this Friday.

As Olsen describes it in a press release, "'Sans' was a song I wrote in between Burn Your Fire and MY WOMAN, something short and simple - but about a big thing in my life: travel and what it can do to the psyche. When you're out there and you're working and moving so fast it's difficult to really imagine a time when you were fully realized and known. You know, it's hard enough to be known when you're around! But then there are those people in your life that know you and don't need you around all the time to be or feel close-I suppose it's about that too."

'Phases' is available Nov 11 on Jagjaguwar/Inertia.
