Roll up, roll up: this year's Great Escape – the UK music industry's annual showcase-slash-love-in – draws ever closer, and as we get nearer to the big weekend, those announcements just keep on coming.

Today's big news is two-fold: firstly, some new names on that delicious snack of a bill. Two of the most exciting are Noisey faves Nilüfer Yanya and Superorganism, who, surely, will bring the city of Brighton to its knees with their hypnotic soul and trippy, almost unclassifiable V1B3S respectively. They join 80+ other artists added to the bill today, including Manchester boundary-breaker GAIKA, weirdo-pop bessie mate duo Let's Eat Grandma, 2016 breakout indie band Goat Girl, wild electronic producer Esther Joy, blissout solo act Yellow Days and Japanese Breakfast, with their warm-as-hell indie. It all means that, as usual, we're in for a tightly packed weekend of the best fun this side of, well, the arcade on Brighton Pier.

Elsewhere, the festival has more top-tier announcements, including the news that for the first time, there'll be a festival site on Brighton beach (where else) to provide a base for the many hi-jinks on offer at the 30+ participating venues around the city. Of this big change, Rory Bett, who's CEO of MAMA Festivals (the people responsible for the whole shindig) said:

With demand and drive for new music and an ever-expanding festival, creating our first, very own festival site on the beach is the most exciting news in TGE’s history and we couldn’t have a more perfect spot than right on the seafront. The Beach will become a magnet for music lovers during the festival and we can’t wait to open the doors.

Hear hear. And with further news of charity link-ups (this year's event will partner with food waste initiative and excellent cause FareShare Sussex), TGE 2018 is, so far, so full of excellent stuff that it's hard to take it all in at once. We'll fill you in on details of a party we're set to throw too. Just as well you've got three days (17 to 19 May) to soak it all in, then.
