Described by host Lester Holt as "a symbol for criminal justice reform and a viral sensation on social media," Meek Mill last night appeared on NBC's Nightly News in an unorthodox manner. Speaking to Holt by phone from prison for a segment of the show, he detailed the struggle with the probation system that has seen him put back in prison, and his hopes for the future.
During the short interview, Meek admits that despite having turned his life around following convictions in his youth, "It was always a thought in the back of my mind that ten years of probation would bring me back to prison." And, of course, that turned out to be true, after he was found to be in violation of his parole last year, resulting in a long, complex, and drawn-out legal case that is still ongoing, and has raised numerous questions about the validity of the US probation system.When talk turned to the future, however, Meek was optimistic. When asked what he would do when released from prison, he said:
