Are You Goth Enough For Robert Smith's Meltdown Festival?

Nine Inch Nails, Placebo, Deftones, and My Bloody Valentine say: probably not.

Well bloody hell, yet another festival announcement to make us hate the present and long for a few months time when the days are longer, the air is warmer, and, in the specific case of Meltdown 2018, London is overrun by goths. As we reported a few weeks ago, this year's iteration of the festival, based at London's Southbank Centre, and which gets a new curator every year, will be hosted by Your Goth Uncle, otherwise known as Robert Smith of The Cure. Today, his lineup has been given its first announcement and I gotta say: it is tasty.

The first selection of names includes Nine Inch Nails, Placebo, Manic Street Preachers, The Libertines, My Bloody Valentine, Deftones, Alcest, and MONO (see the full list via the fun .gif below), which – bar Pete 'n' Carl, of course – is a pretty fucking gothic crew. The shows announced so far span across the Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall venues, with further acts to be added as the event draws closer.

One area to comment on, however, is that as cracking as this lineup is, it is fairly low on woman artists, and other woman-led acts, especially amongst the big names. Let's hope that with the next announcement, we get better female representation as well. Girls can be goth too :')
