A Lot Like Birds Are Back With a Surreal New Video for “The Sound Of Us”

It lands somewhere between a Shakespearean tragedy, 'Eyes Wide Shut' and your night in Bussey Building last Saturday.

Sacramento post-hardcore outfit A Lot Like Birds are a perfect example of how to write intricate, experimental music that rages hard without being too inaccessible; balancing melody and chaos in a similar manner to Circa Survive or The Sound of Animals Fighting. Incidentally the band features guitarist Michael Franzino who we interviewed a little while back about that time he packed off to the mountains and made an album in complete isolation (your move, Bon Iver). Anyway, now he has rejoined civilisation and A Lot Like Birds have a new album called DIVISI out next month. We're premiering the video for "The Sound Of Us" below, which lands somewhere between a Shakespearean tragedy, Eyes Wide Shut and your night in Bussey Building last Saturday.

Speaking over email, vocalist Cory Lockwood tell us: "This song was a way of telling a story about a couple in love that steals stars and light from all over the galaxy. Eventually their love fades, and one of them abandons the other. As he's passing alone and lost and unable to breathe, he thinks about how much of the time they spent together was in silence. He mistook that silence for peace and unspoken love when it was actually just a disconnect, and as he realises it, he suddenly can't stand the silence around him. This song is his series of dying thoughts."

So there's that. And here's the video!

DIVISI will be released on May 5 via Equal Vision Records and you can pre-order it here.
