Perfume Genius Performs a Bracing "Slip Away" on 'Colbert'

Mike Hadreas was the musical guest the same night that his fourth studio album was released.

Mike Hadreas's fourth studio album as Perfume Genius, No Shape, came out yesterday and the Seattle-bred singer-songwriter celebrated with a performance of lead single "Slip Away" on noted bar-spitter Stephen Colbert's Late Show. Decked out in an extremely minimal suit jacket and ruffled sleeves, Hadreas's falsetto holds up remarkably as the song reaches its crescendo. As it comes to an end, Colbert tells Hadreas that the performance was beautiful. He's right, too—with every new listen, "Slip Away" sounds more and more like a sleeper indie anthem. Watch the performance at the top of the page.
