Weekly Drop: The Week Mariah And Miguel Became Beautiful

Plus: which song contains the lyric "I just want to be your Dev Hynes, and you can be my Jessie Ware" ?

Hi there and welcome to a bumper bank holiday edition of the Weekly Drop, bringing you the best new music and videos from the weekend. Before we get into cross-generational R&B perfection from Miguel and Mariah Carey and a stunning contender for video of the year from Twigs, let's quickly look at the best photograph from the weekend.

Yep, that's Frank Ocean photobombing Sky Ferreira and Madonna at the Met Ball last night. Super rich kids with nothing but fake friends.

Twigs - "How's That"

One of the most arresting videos we've seen in a very long time, the new one from London vocalist Twigs sees soluble sillhoutes change form as her coital call-and-response whirr around the surround-sound. Pillow talk has never sounded this good. If you're struggling to make it through this Tuesday, take four minutes out your day and watch this full screen.

Mariah Carey feat. Miguel - "#Beautiful"

We make no secret of our adoration for Mariah but even we thought she might have passed her creative prime. Beautiful proves we don't know anything. Miguel is kind of like the modern Mariah in the sense he's a massive great diva who knows his way round the upper register. He's the perfect collaborator on a song that's written like an old Phil Spector track but sung like Frank Ocean on his third pill. The song comes from Mariah's new album, which is due this summer via Island/Def Jam while the video is set to premiere this Wednesday on American Idol (which apparently, is still a thing).

Say Lou Lou ft. Chet Faker - "Fool Of Me"

Insatiable twin sisters, Say Lou Lou, combined forces with fellow Aussie, Chet Faker for a tale of forlorn love. “Fool Of Me” pairs muted percussive tones with ping pong vocals from both collaborating parties. It forms the B-side of their latest 7” and puckers up even more impatience for their upcoming LP due some time this year.

Ace Hood enlisted a rap army for the “Bugatti” remix

If there were ever a vocal game of rap Jenga, Ace Hood has just hosted it. The prototype version of “Bugatti” was a bodacious flurry of snares and 808s that was mahoosively popular, especially with the contemporary rap sweep of 2k13. A who’s who menu of rap is on hand this time with Meek Mill, French Montana, 2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa, DJ Khaled, Birdman and T.I. spraying verbosities in anticipation for the Trials & Tribulations album due July 16.

Skepta feat. Kano - "Lay Her Down"

And finally, a new tune from Skepta. We're including this not because we're particularly big fans of this 80s pop, singing direction he's going in but because it includes the most blog-friendly come-on of all time: "Don't need to say you love me ten times, I can feel it in the air. I just want to be your Dev Hynes, and you can be my Jessie Ware".
