Marika Hackman's "Time’s Been Reckless" Video Is Totally Gross

Why do some things gross us out? It's a hard one to answer, because the concept of "grossness" isn't a straightforward one. Sometimes, the things that make us shudder and feel sick are also the things we gravitate towards, the things that are the most interesting, the things that make an impact or say the most. That's kind of how Marika Hackman's new video for "Time's Been Reckless" makes you feel anyway, because once you've finished watching it's hard to tell whether you're disgusted or kinda into it, or both. It's got slugs on cucumbers, millipedes on apple slices and a bunch of other mildly unpleasant imagery that you won't be able to look away from.

"I wanted to do a performance video to highlight the energetic nature of the music," Marika told Noisey, "but I also wanted more gruesome visuals to reflect the dark themes of death and decay within the lyrics. We filmed maggots, snails and various other insects feeding on different foods from the album artwork, in a style that harks back to those old VHS tapes teachers would put on in biology lessons."
