Pyrex Pays Tribute to the Classic Hip-Hop of "'94" in His New Video

Toronto shows love to the old school.

In 1995, Tupac Shakur recorded a love letter to the NYC originators of hip-hop that, along with a similar ode to California from Biggie in 1997, showed the bicoastal war to be tragically not as jingoistic as it was made out to be. Toronto's Pyrex shows similar reverence in an era that's seen the current generation making hard breaks from rap's traditions. His video for "'94" portrays the singer/rapper through retro-VHS filters and has him hanging out with friends amidst graffiti and posters of 'Pac, Wu-Tang and other 90s legends.

"I wanted this video to be authentic and at the same time feel refreshing with a 90's vibe," says Pyrex. "I wanted to incorporate my roots and the different generations. Throughout we displayed a series of typical events in the hood from then and now. Reality is, overall, no matter how much time goes by and things change, it's the same ol' cylce… Same ol'…" Watch the "'94" video below.
