Sony Has Reportedly Cut Ties with Dr. Luke

While the legal battle over sexual assault allegations made by Kesha against the producer rages on.

Sony Music has cut ties with producer and founder of Kemosabe Records, Dr. Luke, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The former Saturday Night Live musician launched the label with Sony in 2011. The producer—whose real name Lukasz Gottwald—launched the label with Sony in 2011 after producing mega hits like Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" and Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl." But in 2014, Luke became associated with something far more serious than his musical accolades when singer Kesha filed a lawsuit in California alleging that he drugged and raped her repeatedly over the course of ten years. As a counter, Dr. Luke filed a defamation claim against Kesha saying that her allegations were an attempt at extortion.

In April of 2016, New York Judge Shirley Kornreich gave the case a shocking blow when she dismissed Kesha's request for an injunction which would have kept Luke from interfering with the singer's attempt at joining another label. Luke's defamation claims against Kesha are still open but the latest developments may be used to her advantage.
