Ciscero and Goldlink Team Up For a Soulful Track About the Ways We Get By

The Maryland rapper also recruits April George and Cheakity for "Function," the first single from his 'Devil's Pie' EP.

A beautiful service that GoldLink's At What Cost album provided is not only that it perfectly conveyed the DMV's culture through the music, but it also gave an introduction to some talent that his national audience may have not been aware of. One of those artists was Ciscero, a Maryland rapper featured on that album's "Same Clothes as Yesterday." Like Link, he has a penchant for upbeat soulful instrumentals in which he dances through with cutting raps. Today we're premiering Ciscero's new song "Function," which features GoldLink, April George, and Cheakity.

Produced by Supah Mario, the song is a colorful and bouncy number describing the different things people need to get by day-to-day: weed, syrup, finessing, and cash flow. "I came up with the hook right away. It was magic," Ciscero told me over email. "Kanye is a huge inspiration of mine and how he quarterbacks multiple musicians on records, I love including artists in the creation process of songs. So I had my good friends April George and Cheakity bring it to life for me." The song is the first single off of Ciscero's forthcoming Devil's Pie EP.

"I see a lot of people who chase things: money, fame, clout. And they sacrifice their happiness for it," he said when describing the project's intended message. "And when they get them, they realize it's not good for you. it looks sweet, but its bitter. Devil's Pie." Listen to "Function" below.
