John River Is Seeking Help to Recover from a Serious Illness

The rising Mississauga rapper says he's paralyzed and blinded after a sudden infection and is looking for recommendations for medical care.
Screencap

John River is an independent rapper from Mississauga, Canada who has won a cult fanbase over the past few years for his soulful take on conscious hip-hop. On January 18, John—real name Matthew Derrick-Huie—posted a lengthy thread to Twitter explaining his recent struggle with a still not-concretely diagnosed illness, believed to be a cerebrospinal fluid leak (tweet leads to entire thread):

Derrick-Huie details how a sudden chest pain worsened into vision impairment and partial paralysis after a lumbar puncture procedure in December 2017. The messages, which Derrick-Huie says are being dictated to his parents due to his inability to type, urge anyone reading them to recommend better healthcare to an email address.

It should be noted that money isn't being asked for here. If you want to learn more, email LetsSaveJohn@gmail.com. A GoFundMe page was started in John's name by someone unrelated to him but was asked to be taken down by John's father.
