The Ruins of Beverast's New EP Is an Experimental Orgy of Spiritual Psychedelia

Stream the extremely surprising new EP 'Takitum Tootem!,' which includes a meditative "wardance" and a warped Pink Floyd cover.

Have you listened to the weird-ass new EP from The Ruins of Beverast yet? It officially dropped December 19, and is currently available through the Ván Records webstore, but just in case, we're streaming it below, too—because you've gotta hear this fucking thing. There's a PINK FLOYD cover, for Chrissakes.

A proper full-length is forthcoming later next year,  too, and promises to complete the bipartite meditation begun on the EP's title track, "Takitum Tootem!" (which the band describes as a "celebration in euphoria for manhood's loss of the crown of creation"). The aforementioned Pink Flord cover is a thoroughly warped take on the original's blissful whisper, instead hissing out from a hypnotic cloud of distortion in, as they say, "a prostration before timeless poetry and psychedelia."

Despite its ties to their upcoming LP, the band obviously intends this EP to act as a standalone piece, to be evaluated and appreciated on its own merits. To wit: "Takitum Tootem! vinyl is an experimental orgy of spiritual psychedelia beyond the mood and concept of the following album—thus it stands alone as its harbinger."

The sounds on this EP will undoubtedly come as a surprise to fans of the band's more familiar atmospheric, dirge-heavy black/death, but also offer an intriguing glimpse into what the future may hold. Listen below, and see what you think.
