A couple years ago, Nicole Curry was living on a mattress on the floor of one of Drake's producer's homes in Austin, Texas—about 4,200 kilometres from her Halifax apartment—writing music for her forthcoming three-act audio-visual EP, STRAND. Curry, a.k.a Nicole Ariana, was working alongside Eric Dingus (a co-producer on "Now & Forever" off of If you're Reading This It's Too Late) after connecting with him via Twitter. There, she and Dingus created a handful of tracks together – three of which were featured on OVO Sound Radio (Episode 1, Episode 8 and Episode 42).Now, after a couple years in incubation, the debut single/act from STRAND is ready for its release. "Infatuation: Slowly" is an airy, ambient introduction to STRAND and its protagonists. Repeating "we're all slowly dying, baby," Ariana's first single plays upon the early stages of a relationship in the dark, two-people-seeking-comfort-in-a-sad-world kind of way. The song details the longing lustfulness of a new love interest through a tangible, nay— touchable—soundscape. The track is sexy and ambiguous, as is the video — featuring otherwise low-budget clips of blurred body parts and indeterminable gestures. It was shot and directed by Ariana (all on an old school baby monitor) and was handed over to Jeff Miller (Mo Kenney, Walrus) to get it to its final form."I liked the visuals created through this old baby monitor because it had a kind of night-vision/voyeuristic quality that I felt could depict a mysterious sensuality or intimacy without being too in-your-face," Curry says.
