Lol Sorry, Victoria Beckham Says the Spice Girls Won't Tour

She quashed rumours of a slew of arena shows in a new interview with British Vogue.

There has been a lot of fuss about the Spice Girls recently. Every few years, rumours of a reunion are re-stoked, and for 2018, the news came early and big. A photo of all five Spices together emerged recently, which of course must mean they're reuniting, and not at all that they're five old mates who fancied a bit of a get-together.

Since the photo surfaced, the internet has been crawling with rumours of a huge reunion tour, but apparently that's not to be. Victoria Beckham, widely understood to be the most successful Spice Girl post-breakup (presumably because she decided not to pursue music and instead became an extremely famous and well respected fashion designer), recently spoke to British Vogue about the possibility of a string of new dates. She was, predictably, vague, though she did give one concrete answer. There will, alas, be no tour:

I’m not going on tour. The girls aren’t going on tour. It was so great to see the girls. We had such a fun lunch. It was really, really, really lovely. I still speak to them all individually, but for us all to get together was really lovely. There’s something so strong in the message of what the Spice Girls stood for. What is that in the future? What does that look like? We were just bouncing ideas around. Brainstorming.

The specificity of her phrasing (she's said there'll be no tour but not that there'll be no shows at all) has added fuel to the online fire, and it's possible that the Spices might do a residency, or a couple of one-off London dates. Or, just like all the other rumoured Spice Girls reunions, it might come to absolutely nothing, with fans getting worked up about fuck all. Probably the latter, if history is anything to go by – though the burning light of hope keeps us alive. Either way, it is very funny to re-read Victoria's quotes and realise how much impact one "fun lunch" had on Spice Girls fans around the world, ready to read the absolute most into one photo. The Spice Girls last played a reunion tour a full ten years ago, on a run of dates that was cut short due to "personal commitments". No wonder the fandom is ready.
