Montreal’s Corridor Confronts Compulsive Behavior in “Coup d'épée”

French pop rock is life

Adorably coordinated yellow sweaters combined with dreamy French pop rock is the reason the universe spins. That's not science, exactly, but I have a really good feeling that's a fact after watching Corridor's video for "Coup d'épée." I'm told the title means "sword thrust"—I don't speak French because I'm a bad Canadian, but good music is good music. "Coup d'épée" is from Corridor's Supermercado album, and the video features Jonathan Robert, Dominic Berthiaume, Julien Bakvis and Julian Perreault time hopping through a forest. The chorus goes, "Essaie de te faire croire/ Que c'est pour une autre fois," which translates to, "Try to convince yourself/ it's gonna be next time." "The song talks about compulsively moving on to the next thing, without ever finishing anything," Jonathan Robert wrote to Noisey about the song, "It's a problem I have with a lot of my projects. The idea came to me when I was hanging out with my friends, watching them 'swipe' faces endlessly on Tinder." Watch Corridor's "Coup d'épée" above and below.
