Savannah Ré Has No Time For Exes on "Be Careful"

It’s that time of year again. The cold weather, for whatever reason, seems to conjure up people from the past, popping up again where they aren’t wanted. Toronto artist Savannah Ré explores this emotional retrograding on her new single, “Be Careful.”

“There’s a certain time every year that people from your past try to surface. In my case particularly, [it’s an] ex and it’s like why?” she says over email. “‘Cuffing season’ starts and all of a sudden they forget why you didn’t work the first time and why you broke up in the first place. [This song is] just an ode to the dude who didn’t get the message so you have to remind him, ‘Yeah my number’s still there, but don’t call me.’”

Teaming up with Toronto producers YogiTheProducer and Jordon Manswell, the song is a stark contrast from the songstress’ prior single, “Count Em Off.” The artist reverts back into singing on a sultry, down-tempoed record while sharing the stories about the inconvenience of an old lover.
