Rapper NUE Contributes to a Great Gaming Season with "Obvious" Video

Toronto music has always had a close allegiance with the Nintendo 64.

Man, video games fucking RULE this year! Between the godly big-budget likes of Zelda: Breath of the WildNier: Automata, and Persona 5, along with Night in the Woods and Everything repping the quirkier titles, it's a good time to have a Steam account. But this is a music site, so we must bring everything back to the tunes. Luckily, Toronto rapper NUE has naturally made that connection for us with his new song "Obvious." The song serves as the first single for his upcoming project IROQUOIS and has NUE rapping philosophically over a clattering but blissed-out beat. The video features his head floating in space after an introductory NES-styled title screen, reminiscent of Mario's own disembodied dome as it appears in the Super Mario 64 opening. It's all oddly contemplative.

"It's just a serious vibe, like almost like trance music," NUE told Noisey over email. "I love music that takes you somewhere and I like to create places with my music. 'Obvious' to me is just this future dystopia, that's just how I hear it." Listen to "Obvious" below.

Phil is somehow still a Noisey staff writer. He's on Twitter.
