Arca Announces Self-Titled Album, Unleashes Eerie New Song "Piel"

"You want gore? Here’s gore."

Photo by Daniel Shea Given the bio-mechanical nature of Arca's unique music (aided by Jesse Kanda's visuals), you don't picture him exporting songs from a laptop so much as you imagine his concoctions emerging from an H.R. Giger-designed cocoon, covered in glistening slime. Following his work on Björk's revelatory Vulnicura, Arca is back with an album bearing his performance name and you can now hear its opening track "Piel."

The minimal, unnerving piece features Arca singing for the first time on his music, his haunting melody backed only by guitar feedback and a steadily more looming electronic arrangement. According to a press release, Arca says that the album focuses on "a character who, almost as a mockery of the transaction, goes uncomfortably deep into self-mutilation. 'You want gore? Here's gore.'"Arca is out April 7th, and you can listen to "Piel" below.
