Enjoy a Demo Version of "Let's Dance" Released For Bowie's 71st Birthday
It's a stripped-down look at the beginnings of a classic song.
Today would have been David Bowie's 71st birthday. In celebration of that fact, fans have been gifted with an unheard demo version of "Let's Dance," his 1983 classic from the album of the same name. Produced by Nile Rodgers of Chic, it's a much barer version of the single the world would come to know, and that university students the world over would come to scream at the top of their lungs after 3 PBRs (or local equivalent).
That said, though it's got a bit more of the after-school-TV-theme-song about it, it's very recognizably "Let's Dance," and Bowie's vocal take in particular is impressive, and a reminder of just how good his voice was—even he seems to know it, as he jubilantly announces "That's it—got it!" at the end.
