Since we spoke to Murda Beatz a year ago, he’s been one busy Canadian. In addition to going on a tour of the US to connect with everyone from Snoop Dogg to Partynextdoor, Murda Beatz aka Shane Lindstrom has also been working with the rap superstars that helped take him out of his basement in Fort Erie: Atlanta’s Migos. He recently released “Conversation” on his Soundcloud—arguably the most romantic Migos song ever recorded—and he recently spoke to us about his other contributions to YRN The Album.

With the group’s debut album set to be released on July 31st, we spoke to Murda Beatz to find out how the recording process works with Offset being in prison. “Mostly how it works is we’ll figure out the song structure, then Quavo will come in and do the hook. Then Takeoff goes in and spits his part, but nobody ever writes anything down. They just keep everything in their head.” Once Offset is released, he’ll go into the studio and fill in the blanks left on the songs by his fellow group members. “Free Offset,” stresses Lindstrom, who also confirms that the commercial Migos album will have features from Chris Brown as well as Lil Wayne.

“I think it’s sick, it’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before,” says Lindstrom when asked about the recent artistic direction the Migos seem to have taken with their album art, which invokes memories of Reebot (when asked if he sees any comparison, Lindstrom informs me that he’s never seen Reebot, making me feel old as shit.) “Their clothing line is amazing too, the movement they have going on right now is amazing.” The online store gets a much needed restocking on June 16th, so hurry and buy a pair of YRN sweatpants before it’s too late.
