Watch Hodor Rock Out with Megadeth Backstage

'Game of Thrones' actor Kristian Nairn hung out and jammed with Dave Mustaine and co. at Hellfest in France.
Screencap

If Game of Thrones hadn't become the TV series of a generation, it would've had a long life as a metalhead favourite. Undead ice dragons, multiple beheadings, immortal warriors emerging from the snow… it's basically an Amon Amarth album in visual form (no disrespect meant towards Amon Amarth's Tolkien-ized Viking epics). Regardless of its popularity, GoT and heavy metal are spiritual cousins, what with Mastodon having shown up twice in the series. Now, Megadeth joins the show's headbanging family, thanks to actor Kristian Nairn, a.k.a. the beloved strongman servant Hodor.

As reported by Metal Hammer, a video posted on Instagram by Megadeth drummer Kiko Loureiro shows Nairn jamming backstage with the band at Hellfest in Clisson, France. He plays several classic Megadeth riffs along with Dave Mustaine himself, and in general looks like he's having the time of his life. He is also much, much better at guitar than you or I. A repost by Nairn on his own feed describes the experience as a "bucket list" moment and that it was a meeting of "my 14-year-old self and my 42-year-old self." Nairn has spoken before about how heavy metal informs his tastes in DJing (never forget that Hodor slays the CDJs as his main gig), so this is just proof that even if you sacrifice yourself as part of a time loop to save a child prophet, you'll meet your heroes eventually. I think.

Nairn also introduced Megadeth to the Hellfest throngs, which must have also been a blast. You can watch video of both events below.
