Love Goes South On Joël Lobban's "Stuck With Me"

"It's literally the span of a relationship I was in from ‘Girl I'd slay dragons for you’ to ‘when do you leave?"

Ajax's Joel Lobban is more than your average R&B singer, a chameleon to whom genre is largely irrelevant. His music draws from dance and electronica as much as soul, and that intersection is readily apparent on his new song "Stuck With Me." With a garage-inflected bounce, Lobban sings of a relationship that becomes dangerously sticky. It's also an "homage" to Toronto, as Lobban notes, "I started recording it sometime last year in my home studio and finished it at a dope spot in the east end. I feel like there's so much talent out here in east Toronto that's often missed so you'll always catch me paying homage to the city."

"'Stuck With Me' is basically about a girl I fell for too soon," Joel Lobban explains. "I start off being mesmerized by her beauty, but later on, I realize that she ain't for me. It's literally the span of a relationship I was in, from 'Girl I'd slay dragons for you' to 'when do you leave?.
