Watch the Creases' New Video for 'Point'

The Brisbane four-piece look like they've popped from the pages of a mid-80s issue of 'Melody Maker'.

The Creases are from 2015, Brisbane, but judging by the video for their latest song “Point” you could be forgiven for thinking that they are from 1981, Liverpool or 1986, Hull.

Vocalist Joe Agius’ fringe looks like it could have come from somewhere in Camden Town around 1984.

The new single sees the young four piece – who in their short existence have already made appearances at SXSW, Laneway Festival and Splendour in the Grass - expanding on their signature sound whilst experimenting with new arrangements and styles. It all remains very melodic and poppy.

The band have also just announced that they’ll be joining the Preatures on their upcoming national tour.

We caught up with Joe to find out more.

Noisey: Your sound and style has a distinct feel. And by distinct, we mean 'not Brisbane'. Was there any videos/bands that influenced this particular song/video?
Joe Agius: Our influences mostly come from outside of Australia, each of us listen to a lot of different stuff and definitely love a lot of Australian and Brisbane music but we all share a pretty strong love for 80s/90s British indie and alternative music such as Echo & The Bunnymen, The Cure and Pulp which I think is pretty evident in our music and especially “Point”.

You've said that the track was written about your home town. In what way?
I wrote it when I first moved from my home in Northern NSW to Brisbane and was saying goodbye to not only a place where I'd been my entire life but a lot of people and relationships I had. I loved where I lived but I knew to move forward I needed to get out or I'd probably be there forever and I found the feelings I was having and writing about were very similar and parallel to those I was having about someone who I also felt really strongly about at the time but realised that it was best for the both of us to be apart even though there were a lot of great things about us being together

What directions were you given for the video?
We were going to do something that involved more of a concept and story but we had a few strokes of bad luck and in the end had to quickly organise, film and edit the video ourselves with the help of a couple of friends. The only thing we knew we wanted for the video was for it to go hand-in-hand with the music and feel and look very natural, clean and simple and represent a fresh new start in our sound and be a clean slate for everything new to come.
