The Sounds of the Suburban Jungle Feature On ALTA’s ‘Moves’

The Melbourne electronic duo get their suburban workout on.

Sportswear, skid tricycles, and odd jungle sounds feature heavily on “Moves” the latest video from Melbourne experimental electronic duo ALTA.

Vocalist Hannah Lesser and producer Julius Dowson get their suburban workout on complete with elephant squeals and some quirky production.

While the video for their single “Wash It Down”, which premiered on THUMP last year, featured lots of desert sand, the latest is all about suburban concrete.

We had a chat to Hannah and Julius to find out more about the track that is taken from their forthcoming debut EP to be releaed on Caroline Australia.

Noisey: The exotic sounds in the song contrast with the rather mundane locations of the video. Where was it shot?
Hannah Lesser: We shot it out in the wild outer Melbourne suburbs. There is a bit of Australia flora there in the road reserve and we put some plastic bamboo on the cart to jazz it up a bit. We would have shot it at the zoo but I think you need a permit for that. We like toying around with unusual samples and loops. I think it's cool that if you grab a bit of field recording like a jungle or city or whatever and create a short loop a rhythm kind of springs out of it.

Personal trainers. Good or bad?
Julius Dowson: Personal trainers can definitely beat me up so lets go with good. Personal trainers are the best people, we love personal trainers and believe that everyone should have one.

Which of you has the best moves?
Hannah Lesser: If by moves you mean standing flat footed and nodding your head with an awkward look on your face then Jules has killer moves.
Julius Dowson: Han has So-You-Think-You-Can-Dance-You're-Going-to-Sydney moves but not after the hour of body squats in the clip. The burn was real.

ALTA launch their EP in Melbourne July 4 at Boney.
