Watch Snowy Nasdaq Slap Himself In the Face 90 Times

The prodigious Melbourne musician is back with a new video that features an alarming level of self harm.

Snowy Nasdaq is back. Back with a new band, a new album and by the looks of his new video, a new self- inflicted concussion.

The Melbourne songwriter who is involved in a swag of bands, including the Ocean Party, Velcro and Zone Out, has a new project Snowy Nasdaq & Snowy Life and their debut album NewJangle2012 will soon be released on French label Beko Disques (Day Ravies, Cool Sounds).

The video for "Ironic Life" looks like it may have taken some inspiration from the start of New Order’s 1987 classic "True Faith", only it features Snowy doing all the slapping. On himself. We spoke to the man himself to find out more.

Noisey: Who came up with the idea of slapping yourself in the face?
Snowy Nasdaq: Lucky Dolphin who have done clips for Teeth & Tounge, The Ocean Party etc, came up with the concept after I offered to humiliate/injure myself on the condition that Dainis was present, playing a passive role to balance things. A few ideas got tossed around, including one that featured a giant rubber cock, but Matt, who directed, is a massive nang fanatic so we settled on the balloon theme.

How many times do you slap yourself?
I slap myself every two seconds but it's at half-speed. So in real life I slapped myself every second while I sung to the song playing at twice the speed. The song goes for 3 minutes so I would have slapped myself around 90 times per take, plus a big one at the end for good measure. I was worried that the slow motion would downplay the force I was hitting myself with but if you have any doubts you can see my face get progressively redder throughout the clip. I was pretty sore and bruised for a while. The first take sucked but the second one (the close up) was really unbearable.

“NewJangle2012" is available June 15 on Beko Disques.
