If You’re Into Deep Purple and Philip K Dick There’s A Good Chance You’ll Dig Auckland’s Sere

Listen to the psych doom rockers new track 'Hazy' from their forthcoming debut album.

The first gig for Auckland psych-doom overlords sere was last year opening for Iceage. At first listen it might have seemed an unconventional fit, but the four-piece’s searing intensity matched the Dane’s skittish, brutal irreverence perfectly.

Since then sere have gone on to play a handful of shows, including NZ Psych Fest, covered the Wipers classic “Alien Boy” and become one of our favourite Auckland bands.

“Hazy” is the first single from their upcoming album due July 22 on Arcade Recordings. We turned it up loud and cranked it hard for a few listens but struggled to come up with a good way to describe it so we asked the band’s Zac Arnold. “’Hazy’ is a mix of Deep Purple, Philip K Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep and jokey jangly guitars. Any excuse for more tambourine and we’ll take it," he says.

Good call. Take a listen to the track below and hit up Auckland’s Wine Cellar on Thursdays in June for seres winter residency.
