The Shifters Return With More of Their Signature DIY Pop

The Melbourne band have released a new record of lo-fi and charming pop.

We've long been fans of The Shifters and so are glad to report that the Melbourne band have returned from down by the canal, or wherever it is they slink off to drink bottles of stout and smoke ciggies, with two new songs of repetitious and unpretentious lo-fi punk pop.

A-side "A Believer" continues Miles Jansen's literate lyrics and is about as close as you can get to Neil Diamond and the The Monkees' Micky Dolenz joining Mark E Smith for a Sunday jam in the front bar. The b-side "Contrast of Form" has more of a Kiwi pop sound as it recounts the ambitions of an odd artist.

Limited to 300 copies, the 7" is released on Market Square Records, a small label based in the West Sussex village of Billinghurst, and features cool artwork from the band's Tristan Davies.

This is DIY goodness that reminds us why small Melbourne bands and little known labels based in the British countryside are a perfect match for lo-fi and charming pop.

The Shifters new 7" is available now through Market Square Recordings.
