Canberra Finally Got a Decent Music Festival and Here’s Some Proof

Spilt Milk brought Vince Staples, DMA’s, Flume (and Gelato Messina) to Canberra and things got hot .

Spilt Milk was a big deal for Canberra. It's the first festival the city's played host to beyond Groovin The Moo, and certainly one of the first times a rapper with a profile like Vince Staples has bothered stopping by.

Photographer Arnad Hajdic went along and took some photos for us. By the sounds of things, he had a good day.

I started the day off with Vera Blue and Client Liaison. They didn't disappoint, and considering how early it was, the amount of people that showed for both sets was crazy.

I think Genesis Owusu is one of the best guys doing it in Australian music at the moment. He closed the festival for the home crowd.

Vince's set was my pick of the day. Wild. He pretty much controlled the crowd for a whole hour. I'd been trying to find an opportunity to get a portrait of him backstage for most of the day. After his set, he stared at my trousers and complimented them as he walked past, so I asked him for a photo.

DMA's were another notable performance They mellowed the crowd in the afternoon, then Violent Soho pumped the energy back up — circle pits unfolded during each song. Flume's crowd was the biggest of the day, 'cause it's Flume of course.
