Mark Feehan’s Solo Album is One of the First Exciting Records of 2017

Listen to a track from the ex-Harry Pussy guitarist’s second solo album.

From the mid 80s to late 90s Miami had a small but strong weirdo punk scene. Leading the charge of non-conformist burnouts was Broken Talent and later Harry Pussy. Both featured guitarist Mark Feehan.

Likened to a Florida Flipper, Broken Talent's unrefined and abrasive punk rock was loathed by many and loved by some. Their track "My God Can Beat Up Your God" was later covered by North Carolina punk band Antiseen. Led by the atonal guitar of Bill Orcutt, Harry Pussy was active from 1992 to 1997 and became known for their wildly original and free form, deconstructionist punk.

Feehan now lives in Philadelphia where he records music and plays in Taiwan Housing Project. In 2012 he released a solo album on Siltbreeze and on Jan 27 Richie Records/TestosterTunes will put out his second solo record M.F. II.

The label has just released the track "Papillon", a beautiful piece of acoustic guitar that bobs along as odd electronic flourishes add a tension. Listening to the track you can imagine Steve McQueen's castaway character Papillon bobbing along the ocean on a bag of coconuts from the 1973 film of the same name.

Richie Records/TestosterTunes, the Philly label who have put out excellent releases from the likes of Watery Love, Spacin' and Home Blitz says this of M.F.II:

"It is safe to say this is the weirdest thing ever to appear on this label, and while we don't pretend to understand half of it, we do know that we enjoy it. For those who welcome befuddlement and perplexity, we salute you! Hop on board."

"M.F. II" is available Jan 27 from Richie Records/TestosterTunes.
