This Neddy Smith Reissue Proves That 80s Funk Was the Sweatiest

The smooth B-side is written about an ex-girlfriend's obsession with soap operas.

Not to be confused with the notorious Australian armed robber and murderer of the same name, Neddy Smith, is a musician and producer who made a name in the New York club scene in the early 80s. His track "Give It Up" originally released in 1982 on Delirium Records, has recently been remastered and reissued on 12 inch vinyl by Best Record, an Italian label specialising in "limited edition" releases from the large catalog of Best Record & sub-labels. Check their recent reissues of obscure Italian Balearic Disc from Pussycat (for the cover alone) and Jagg too.

Curiously "Give it Up" was not written about sex but about Smith's ex-partner who had a habit of complaining, while the smooth B-side "Liberated Woman", was written about the same woman's obsession with soap operas.

Listen below and relive some some quality 80s boogie.

'Give It Up' is available now through Best Record.
