Atlanta Punks Death Stuff Remind Us That Everything Is Terrible and Everyone Dies

Stream the band's debut EP but not if you are looking for some light in this time of turmoil.

Death Stuff is three guys from Atlanta creating some heavy dissonance and downer vibes. Lloyd, Jacob and Trevor produce a morose and anxious punk that could be described as a combination of woe, weird math rock stuff and munted Aussie punk.

On first listen to their debut self-titled we were reminded of Melbourne malcontents Cuntz and by the second listen we were thinking of something Touch and Go Records would have been working on around 2002. It's all pretty neggy and noxious.

Cory Plump, who plays in Spray Paint and is involved in Monofonus Press came across the band when Spray Paint were on to tour in Atlanta. He returned to HQ to say that the label needed to think about releasing their album. The label listened and the album is available Feb 10.

Listen to it below and read a brief chat we had with the band.

Noisey: Your music, particularly the vocal style of Lloyd reminds me of Melbourne band Cuntz. Did you see them when they played in Atlanta?
Jacob Armando: We appreciate such a comparison. Lloyd's accent is definitely Australian in reality. I think they played the EARL a few times in the past couple of years. I remember seeing flyers for their 2013 show with GG King, Uniform and Sharps. I was 20 at the time and couldn't get in. Their 2015 show their was sick. One of those performances that makes your stomach flip. Great band on all accounts. Lloyd also draws influence from Venom P. Stinger. We enjoy other modern Melbourne bands as well like UV Race and Eddy Current Suppression Ring.

Is "SIDS"  about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome?
Lloyd Wingard: Not lyrically, but we definitely like to uses morbid sense of humor and acronyms for our song titles, especially when the word 'death' naturally occurs in them. So, superficially, sure. That's what it's about.

I've been asked me to ask you about Henry from Spray Paint's stand up comedy set?
Trevor Vick: Needs more reverb.

Where was the photo on the cover taken?
Trevor: We took a trip up to Brasstown Bald in North Georgia. I believe we saw an outlook on the highway on our way up the mountain, just a random shot of the Appalachians. We wanted something natural, simple, and definitely not traditionally punk in anyway.

Jacob: The inside photo was taken at a church off one of the main roads in the tiny town of Blairsville where we got stranded for the night when our car broke down.

You featured in a local 'Bands to Watch' piece. What do make of that kind of stuff?
Lloyd: We appreciate all the local support because we didn't think that anyone would enjoy this band aside from us. We've tried to make music that represents us. We didn't want to come off as trying too hard, and the fact that we still had some positive reception from local press is nice.

Is there a difference between dead stuff and death stuff?
Jacob: The smell.

Death Stuff's album is available Feb 10 through Monofonus Press
