Cry Alone into Your Pillow to Julien Baker's "Appointments" Video

Relatable! Post-breakup! Visuals! From the 21-year-old Memphis singer-songwriter.

In excellent news for anyone feeling a bit sad today, Memphis-based singer-songwriter Julien Baker's got a new video. Surely "I'm staying in tonight" is the best possible opening line for a song primed to soundtrack you thinking about every mistake you've made in a relationship, or that time you had your heart broken or how you'll never be as young and happy again as you were aged nine.

Baker first put out the audio for "Appointments" in August, and its lightly plucked electric guitar and 'perfect for a montage' piano elevate her raw lyrics when paired with the Memphis-shot video's seemingly banal, everyday scenes. All jokes about being in your feelings aside, it's these sorts of moments – refilling your car's petrol tank, lying on the floor trying to will yourself to just get up and function – that come to define the textures of our emotional lows.

But then, something seeps back into your life that shakes you back into feeling whole. In the Sophia Peer-directed video, that shift is represented by a group of dancers – some of them Baker's friends – who show up, swooping through moments that normally would sit steeped in solitude. If you're going through it right now, grab a pillow and sob along. Either way, you can watch the video at the top of the page. Baker's second album Turn Out The Lights, is due out on 27 October via Matador and she'll be playing a handful of UK dates in November. Peep those below.

6 Nov: The Lantern, Bristol
7 Nov: Brudenell Social Club, Leeds
8 Nov: CCA, Glasgow
9 Nov: Whelans, Dublin
10 Nov: Union Chapel, London (which is already sold out, soz)
