The Sex Pistols Are Playing a North Queensland Festival With Shannon Noll

Well, the boring bassist from the Sex Pistols is playing.

How many Sex Pistols do you need to bill the Sex Pistols on a music festival?

One, according to The Airlie Beach Festival of Music that has billed former Pistol bassist Glen Matlock as The Sex Pistols on a lineup that includes UK songwriter Leo Sayer, electro pop duo Sneaky Sound System, 90s rockers The Baby Animals, and true blue Aussie hero Shannon Noll.

The Airlie Beach Festival of Music takes place Nov 10-12 in Airlie Beach, a town in the Whitsunday area of Queensland that according to festival website is known as a 'drinking town with a sailing problem'.

"It's going to be awesome," festival organiser Gavin 'Butto' Butlin told the Whitsunday Times in April. "We've got the Sex Pistols from the UK in the form of Glen Matlock. Then we've got Sneaky Sound System who'll be performing their big hits that you've bound to have heard on the radio."

It's not the first time the festival has booked an iconic punk figure with Richie Ramone playing the fest last year alongside Troy Cassar-Daley and Daryl Braithwaite.

Although a founding member of the London punk band, Matlock had been replaced by Sid Vicious by the time the Sex Pistols had released their classic Never Mind the Bollocks. it doesn't stop him from touring under the Sex Pistols name.

Still, the thought of someone associated with the Sex Pistols drinking pina coladas on a tropical North Queensland beach and sharing a stage with Shannon Noll must have Sid Vicious spinning.
