If You’re Looking For Loud and Dumb Brisbane Scuzz, May We Suggest Unpeople's ‘Wading Through Cops Blood’?

Taken from a forthcoming album, Unpeople’s new track continues the long rivalry between punks and the Queensland police force.

To wade is to walk through a substance that impedes free motion or offers resistance to movement. The typical human body contains about six litres of blood. So when Brisbane punks Unpeople sing their new track “Wading Through Cops Blood” the question is “How many cops?”

Led by an insolent guy called Sean, who you may know as one half of Multiple Man, the Brisbane band create a fast and obnoxious punk rock that also contains good doses of humour. Featuring some really cool artwork from Toronto artist Benjamin Marra, their new album, to be released on Space Ritual album picks up where their well received demo left off, namely being some of Brisbane’s biggest shit-stirrers.

The band are playing at Brisbane’s upcoming Total Attack Festival alongside Lubricant from Singapore, Bed Wettin Bad Boys, Internal Rot, Sick People, Self Harm and many more.

We had a chat to Sean to find out more about their surliness.

Noisey: So how many cops does the song relate to?
Sean: All of them. They all dropped dead and now their blood is everywhere. It would probably be welcomed if it wasn't such an environmental catastrophe

How many guitarists does the band have now?
At any given point there is 4 from a rotating cast of 9. Members include a corporate lawyer, a construction worker and a man hired by the Queensland Government to poison plants and wildlife.

Benjamin Marra’s album artwork amazing. How did you hook up with him?
We have all been big fans of Ben's work for a while. Its a surreal combination of gonzo Eclipse comics, DnD handbooks and teenage heavy metal doodles. We sent Ben a nice, flattering email and he agreed to do the cover on the spot. Flattery will take you places.

You are playing the upcoming Total Attack festival. How important is something like Total Attack to a city like Brisbane?
Total Attack is always an awesome and debauched weekend. I'd encourage your readers to attend. Maybe Melbourne can spend the weekend in an exotic non-Tote environment. Sick Rick along with his various lackeys up the ante every year with an always diverse, new and exciting lineup.

Do you still want to kill in-house pub sound guys?
We are willing to compromise on our initial hardline stance. They can be spayed and neutered so that they might live out the rest of their pony-tailed lives whining and playing indoor cricket.

Unpeople’s album is coming soon on Space Ritual.

Catch them at Brisbane’s Total Attack Festival at the Beetle Bar May 6-8.
