The B-52's Kate Pierson Plus The Strokes' Nick Valensi Equals "Bottoms Up"

It also equals awesome.

Let's take a moment to bow down to the B-52s please. Thank you. Perfect. Now please turn your attention to Kate Pierson, she of the flaming red, impressively volumized hair, the fabulously outlandish wardrobe and the ever impressive, instantly recognizable pipes. In her career, she's collaborated with The Ramones, Iggy Pop, David Byrne, and fellow Athens, Georgia band REM, but she's never actually released a full blown solo record.

For her first opus, Guitars and Microphones, she teamed up with Sia (for songwriting and exec production duties) and she's already dropped a couple of teaser tracks: "Mister Sister"—the video for which stars Fred Armisen and is clearly about being trapped in a body you have no connection with—and "Bring Your Arms." Both are fresh, super catchy slabs of modern pop with her distinctive vocals tugging at the nostalgia strings.

Above is the premiere of "Bottoms Up" which boasts a fiercely fuzzy bassline, and Nick Valensi's nimble guitar lines. Yeah, you read that right. If Kate booted Jules out of the way and started fronting The Strokes, this is the music they'd make. Check the chorus. This is awesome.

Guitars and Microphones is out on 2.17 via Lazy Meadow Music/Kobalt Label Services.

Kim Taylor Bennett spent some time exploring the Athens music scene this summer with director Lance Bangs. Also, she's on Twitter.
