Chase the Whip With Melbourne Punks Whipper

Whipper's new record blast a perfect combination of scuzzy murder punk and riffy rock that brings to mind The Powdermonkeys and early X.

Yeah, so Melbourne has a cool punk scene that is filled with a bunch of great bands, labels, stores, zines and people yadda yadda yadda. But of all the cool Melbourne bands, the one that we have been most excited about in recent times is Whipper. The three-piece, who are made up of members of Cuntz, Tyrannamen, Bits of Shit and Leather Lickers, blast a perfect combination of scuzzy murder punk and rowdy and riffy rock that brings to mind The Powdermonkeys and early X.

At times their song “Chase the Rainbow”, taken from their brand new Shit Love 7" released on local label Aarght sounds like a faster Cosmic Psychos if they were fuelled on cheap whip rather than VB. When Lewis screams “drop out of high school” it makes you wish that were still studying secondary school so you could do just that. To walk out of the school gate with your two middle fingers held aloft.

The band are playing a number of shows this week with Terry (who have also just released a record on Aarght) and Tommy T and the Classical Mishaps.

You can also catch them playing a live-to-air with Terry and Pappy on Teenage Hate on Sunday April 24 as part of community radio station Triple R's April After Dark series of gigs.

'Shit Love' is availabe now though Aarght records.
