Desecrate the Sabbath's Eve with Churchburn's Apocalyptic New EP

Stream the Providence extremists's nasty new sacrificial offering.

Photo by Jeff Brown It always mystifies me that Providence, RI's Churchburn isn't a billion times bigger than they are. Not only does the band's roster include current and former members of heavyweights like Vital Remains, Grief, Deicide, Sin of Angels, and Sangus, the music itself is is a damn near perfect hybrid of fetid death metal, crawling doom, and sickening black metal. Veteran shredder Dave Suzuki's scintillating leads slither and slide through the murk, complementing Ray McCaffrey's simple-but-deadly war drums. Mike Cardoso's bass rumbles, Kevin Curley's strings howl, the roared vocals are ragged and raw, and the whole thing just reeks of ancient evil and creeping death.

I mean, what more could you want?

This latest release, The Awaiting Coffins, pulls together their excellent 2013 demo with two new songs and a Celtic Frost cover ("Return to the Eve") that would make ol' Tom G. weep black tears of joy. The new material shows a marked improvement from the band's earlier output, and even sees them venture into more melodic territory in between bludgeonings. It totally works. CD and vinyl versions will be available soon from Armageddon Records, but the digital version is out today. For now, listen and lament your pathetic existence right the fuck here:
