The New Tim & The Boys Video Is Like the Ultimate Warrior Instructing a Pilates Class

Taken from the Sydney trio's excellent demo, "Hey" subverts the lyrics of a Spice Girls song and creates a new un Godly beast.

The latest video for Sydney’s Tim & the Boys reminds me of trying to watch ABC or SBS television during the time I lived in a house that sat under a flight path.

Filmed by the band’s Daniel Grolz, the black and white static on "Hey" flickers in and out out of found footage of someone’s engagement party and vocalist Tim Collier daubing face paint and practicing some kind of punk rock Pilates.

Taken from their excellent demo which we described as “dark synth based abjectness”, the track buzzes along with Collier hollering “Hey do you get off on weakness?”

Collier explains that the lyrics (like the video) are partly original and partly found. “We were talking about the lyrics to a Spice Girls song and Dan said, include them in the song. Then I structured the other lyrics to distort and subvert the Spice Girls lyrics. I wanted to take the meaning of the original song and twist it in on itself, sort of destroying the lyrics and then putting them back together to suit my needs.”
