Martha Stewart Jinxes Michael Pineda's Perfect Game Bid

Michael Pineda was perfect through six and two-thirds innings. Then Martha Stewart tweeted.

Michael Pineda got the start for the home opener at Yankee Stadium this afternoon, and he was dealing. Over six and two-thirds innings, he dispatched with the first 20 batters he faced, striking out 10 with a devastating slider. On the nicest day of the spring, in front of a packed and electric house, Pineda was showing the stuff that has made him such a tantalizing piece of the rotation even when he's struggled. And then Martha Stewart went and ruined everything.

It's top of the seventh here at yankee stadium and the Yankees are pitching a perfect game versus the Tampa rays

You should never talk about a perfect game while it's in progress, the old saying goes. And here's convicted felon Martha Stewart brazenly tempting fate. Jinxes, of course, do not exist. They are for the intellectually soft, for those who are unwilling to face the bitter cold of reality. But here's the thing: Martha totally fucking jinxed Pineda.

Martha tweeted her jinx at 2:51 eastern time. At 2:53:50, according to Verizon FIOS, notorious Yankee killer Evan Longoria roped a double down the left field line. Pineda struck out the next batter for the final out in the inning, but the damage was done. The Yankees, who were leading 2-0 at the time, added a home run in the next inning to take a 3-0 lead, but then Pineda gave up a home run in the eighth before manager Joe Girardi pulled him. If the Yankees can hold on to the 3-1 lead, he will at least get the W.

His final line was 7.2 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 0 walks, 11 strikeouts, and 1 massive jinx from a celebrity pastry chef/baker/person who has been in jail.
