A little part of me died today. Hiroshi Yamauchi, who made Nintendo a household name, died this morning at the age of 85.Not that I ever graduated beyond the SNES and N64 systems, and only a handful of games on each, at that. But like untold millions of millenials the world over, the early entries of the Mario franchise left an indelible impression on my formative years.So nevermind that it shows neither an actual level—according to Colin Snyder, Motherboard's resident game correspondent, this "looks hacked", as there's "never a sky transition like that" because the NES could never handle those sorts of palette swapping—nor is this the track from Mario 2. (Indeed, this was made for an event.) When you can relive a part of your easier days nearly 1,000 times simultaneously, the game never ends.@thebanderson
