Mos Def Undergoes Guantanamo Bay's Force-Feeding Procedure in Shocking Campaign Video

Ahead of Ramadan, Yasiin Bey (AKA Mos Def) takes part in this powerful video to raise awareness about the forced enteral feeding used on the camp's hunger strikers.

Ahead of Ramadan, Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, has voluntarily undergone the forced enteral feeding used on hunger strikers at Guantanamo Bay for a video to raise awareness about the controversial practice. The four-minute film by Human Rights organization Reprieve, is directed by BAFTA winner Asif Kapadia and shows Bey strapped into a restraint chair as medical staff insert a feeding through his nostril and into his stomach. After an unsuccessful first attempt, Yasiin is too distressed to carry on.

106 inmates are currently on hunger strike at Guantanamo Bay in protest of their prolonged detention without trial, 44 of which are being fed against their will and four of which are legally challenging the US government for persisting the practice throughout Ramadan, which begins tonight and involves fasting from dawn until sunset for about one month.

Be warned, it does make for distressing viewing and I sincerely hope anyone falling over themselves to make a LOL about it has to eat through a tube through their nose for the rest of their life.
