The MOBO Nominations Are Out, and Grime Is Absolutely Bossing It

There's 27 nominations for grime associated artists, including 4 for JME alone.

When we talk about the grime revival - or at least the public's renewed interest in the genre - we often talk about the tracks that've set the nation alight, the ones that've reached number one or been banged out at various club nights and festivals. Look at this year's MOBO Awards though and it's clear there's another signifier that the genre is continuing to dominate the urban music landscape, because 2015 is gonna see 27 nominations heading grime's way at this year's award ceremony.

JME leads the nominations with four: Best Album, Best Song, Best Male, and Best Grime Act. An astonishing feat for a man whose life involves "No label, No pr, No publisher, No manager, No pa, No stylist". Alongside him, UK hip-hop duo Krept and Konan have recieved four nominations for Best Male, Best Hip-Hop Act, Best Song and Best Album. Elsewhere Skepta and Stormzy have been given a nod for Best Male, FKA twigs has recieved two nominations for video of the year for "Glass & Patron" and "Pendulum", and Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly goes up against the likes of A$AP Rocky and Dr Dre for international album of the year.

The award we're most excited about though is the inaugural MOBO Paving the Way award which has been gifted to Wiley. Essentially what this means is that the Mobo Awards are giving Wiley a paving stone. Yes: a literal paving stone - and it's going to be placed, as chosen by Wiley, at Bow School in Tower Hamlets, East London.
