Brodinski and Bloody Jay's Music Video for "Us" Will Rearrange Your Brain

"Us" is one of those transcendent moments you won't want to let go of.

Most rap fans are kinda-sorta terrified of EDM/street rap collaborations, because dope boys and anyone who would self-identify as "EDM" often make for incompatible bedfellows. Most of the time the rappers are just rapping over that ironic parody of a Lex Luger beat for the money rather than because they fuck with the producer, and the producer, who is generally from the suburbs and has an appreciation of rap that rarely extends beyond learning all the words to Get Rich or Die Tryin after tennis practice, generally gets the rapper's vibe totally wrong. This leads to a whole lot of this and not a hell of a lot of this.

Enter Brodinski, who shall heretofore be known as the savior of dance/rap collaborations. Brodinski hails from France, helped craft the beautiful interstellar hellscape of Kanye West's Yeezus, and most importantly IS AN ACTUAL RAP FAN WHO UNDERSTANDS HOW RAP WORKS. His next album is called Brava. His people were nice enough to send me an advance copy of it, and believe me when I say it breaks new musical ground and if you care about electronic music or hip-hop, you owe it to yourself to listen to it. It comes out in a week, and features the rappers SD, Young Scooter, Slim Thug, Peewee Longway, iLoveMakonnen, Yung Gleesh, and Fabo from D4L. The Atlanta rapper Bloody Jay, who you might know from his Black Portland mixtape with Young Thug, features on three tracks, including the transcendent "Us," whose music video saw its release yesterday. Watch it. It's absolutely crazy. The pair have a unique chemistry that makes me want to advocate for these two as the new Metro Thuggin.

If you dig "Us," you should also consider giving Bloody Jay's Blatlanta 3 mixtape a spin. You won't be disappointed.
