One day before tickets are to go on sale for his December national tour, the Australian government has told US singer Chris Brown it will refuse his visa application based on his domestic violence history.

As The Guardian reports, Immigration Minister Peter Dutton on Sunday confirmed that a Notice of Intention to Consider Refusal of his visa had been issued.

The US R&B singer had been warned by Australian official on Friday night, of their intention to refuse his visa application on character grounds, because he bashed his the girlfriend, musician Rhianna, in 2009.

Tickets for Brown's One Hell of a Nite Tour were due to go on sale at noon tomorrow with shows in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

The 26-year-old singer was convicted in 2009 of assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna. He was sentenced to five years' probation, a twelve-month domestic violence program and 180 days of community labour.

According to the Australian Migration Act anyone with a "substantial criminal record" involving a prison sentence of 12 months or more - including a suspended sentence - can be refused a visa.

Brown has yet to publicly comment on the notice and has 28 days to present his case for being allowed to enter Australia.

New Zealand's immigration minister Michael Woodhouse has said the country would not grant Brown a visa, as he had already been blocked from the UK on character grounds.
