The Vice's New Track "Calculator" is a Carefully Calculated Pop Anthem

The new track from the Danish five-piece is a classic pop song—done really, really well.

When you hear a pop song that simply works - that has impeccable hooks, a driving melody, a friendly warmth to it - it can be an unexpectedly satisfying experience. That's the reaction we were left with after we listened to Danish five-piece band The Vice's new track, "Calculator".

"Calculator" lets vocalist Mikkel Dahl take prominence against an elegant backdrop of piano. His lyrics are poignant and clear, communicating what it's like to be a man trapped inside a great machine, drowning beneath the sheer weight of binary numbers and secret code. Staying true to the song's title, the track feels carefully calculated and methodical thanks to metronome-like drumming and classic hooks. With sparse production and the regimented back beat, you're left with a song that goes down easy yet impresses—just as a well-executed pop song should.
